An analysis on why most young men are single while most young women are not.

According to the latest study by the Pew Research Center, 63% of men aged between 18 and 29 say they are single compared to 34% of women in the same age group: 66% of women are in a relationship compared to 37 % some men.

TABLE 1

What is going on? How is it possible that under the age of 30 single men are about twice as many as single women? Who are the women having affairs with? With other women? Certainly lesbian relationships have increased given that in the USA about 20% of generation Z (born between 1997 and 2003) is part of the LGBT community, but even with this increase, the math doesn’t add up even remotely, especially because the most dominant demographic among LGBT(15% of generation Z) are bisexuals and studies have shown that bisexuals tend to date people of the opposite sex rather than their own sex.

Another hypothesis is that women may prefer to date older men in their thirties who are more financially stable. It is a concrete possibility considering that women prefer older men and also the fact that due to the continuous birth rate decline, the older segments of the population have more people than the younger segments: approximating numbers and variables* one could conclude that the 29 % of women UNDER 30 are in a relationship with a man in the OVER30 bracket.

*UNDER30 women in a relationship: 66%, UNDER30 men in a relationship: 37%,66-37=29% of women in a relationship with non-UNDER30 men.

However it is only a hypothesis and many researchers have been left dumbfounded by the results of this survey and have also hypothesized that men and women under 30 have a different conception of being in a relationship leading to an overestimation of being in a relationship for women and to underestimate being in a relationship for men.

I personally believe that the truth lies somewhere in between: there is an overestimation of being in a relationship by women and vice versa, more women share the same man and ESPECIALLY a part of UNDER30 women has a relationship with OVER30 men.

The fact remains that regardless of what is the truth, there has been an increase in men who claim to be single compared to 2019 and this increase cannot simply be air. It’s a real increase.

In 2019 among UNDER30 men, 51% claimed to be single against 63% in 2022 (for women it is 32% in 2019 vs 37% in 2022, an increase for them too but reduced).

It is a dramatic situation that is getting worse year after year and it’s not said that the UNDER30 men who don’t fuck today will then become the OVER30 men who will fuck because tomorrow’s OVER30 men will not have a wealth of experience, they will be emotionally immature, indeed not immature , will be emotionally stuned: they will not have had the opportunity to have the same emotional growth as the OVER30s of today and in the past.

Even more worrying is the fact that in 2022 the number of people looking for a relationship or casual encounter is declining and the decline was mainly caused by men.

In 2019, 61% of single men were looking for a date, while in 2022 the number dropped to 50%.

Are we happy for those single men who have stopped looking for sex/relationships because they may have found peace of mind and are able to find happiness in their work and hobbies or have they just slumped over and resigned themselves to being alone? Unfortunately this is not given to us to know.

We can only say that certainly this is not the best era ever.
